Which type of sling is right for me?

Pouch slings are hands down the best slings to use when your baby is newly born. They are quick to put on the wearer's body, place new baby into, and are compact to transport. Wrap slings are great when your baby is a bit larger so they don't get lost in layers of fabric.

Either sling is great for working around the house. If you are going to the store and want to wear your baby in your sling then put your sling on at home before you leave the house. After you park place your baby in your sling right out of their car seat.

Keep in mind that one sling may not be enough. Different slings work for different people due to their body types and of activities they participate in. Sling types can overlap. In the house and going to the store we prefer the pouch sling. But if you want to clean your house then wear your wrap sling for a tighter fit. When walking longer periods of time or distances the wrap sling is best. If your body is larger or if you anticipate sharing your sling with a family member, then go with a wrap sling.

For social functions the pouch sling won't bother your clothing as much as a wrap sling. If you are traveling and space is an issue then the pouch sling is ideal. If you get hot easily the pouch sling will be better for you.

When do I start using my sling?

As soon as your baby is born. The sooner you start using the sling the faster your infant will feel safe and back in a womb like environment. They will hear your heart beating and feel the warmth of your body again.

How do I breast feed my baby while using a pouch sling?

If you have one of our slings with the Nursing option, then you don't have to do anything but raise your shirt and position yourself through the nursing area. Otherwise, lower the fabric on your chest that is between you and the baby. Reposition baby's body toward your chest, raise shirt and guide baby to nurse.

I am pregnant, how can I buy the correct sling size now?

This is the best time to get your sling so you can practice putting it on, wash it in your detergent, and pack it in your hospital bag. Rule of thumb: if you have not gained a lot of weight or are petite, then go with your pre-pregnancy shirt size. If you have gained a lot of weight or have larger breasts, go with your pre-pregnancy shirt size plus one size larger. If you would feel more comfortable getting measured, you can loosely place a measuring tape on your back from shoulder to opposite hip bone. Size chart is located under “My Pouch Sling Size”.

Does size really matter when ordering a pouch sling?

To successfully wear your child in any sling it must fit correctly. See My Pouch Sling Size for sizing instructions.

How do I know which size pouch sling my husband should wear?

For men, follow the same sizing instructions. Best measurement is to actually measure his body loosely from shoulder bone to opposite hip bone.

Any hints to buying the correct pouch sling size?

Think about your body type. If you are petite and small chested, and normally wear a small shirt size then you'll most likely to wear a small sling. If you have broad shoulders, a long torso, and medium to large breasts you'll most likely wear a medium or large sling. If you have large breasts and normally wear a large shirt, then you'll most likely wear a large or x-large sling. If you question your size at all, take a measurement and look at our sizing chart. If you fall in between two sizes, go with the larger sling size.

How do I know if my pouch sling fits properly?

Once your baby is in the sling, the lower part of sling should fall around your belly button area.

Who should wear a wrap sling?

Anyone who wants a snug more secure feeling sling, is physically active, or has a larger body frame. If you normally wear an x-large shirt, then a wrap sling would generally fit your body better. If you are an active person and enjoy walking longer distances, then the wrap sling would be a good fit as it hugs baby tighter in this sling. Remember different slings work for different occasions and functions.

Are there any safety factors?

Safety Symbol

While you are getting used to wearing your baby in the sling, be aware of your baby at all times. Use common sense. If you bend over to pick something up, remember to use your other arm to keep baby securely in your sling.

While you can wear your baby hands-free, remember that this is a tool to assist you but is not replacing you. Check on your sleeping baby's airways to make sure they can breathe normally. To avoid positional asphyxiation or suffocation, baby's chin shouldn't be rolled on top of their chest. Your child must be placed high on your chest. Close enough that you could kiss their head easily. The right fit ensures a safer sling.

The sling recall was for a "Bag Sling", brand is Infantino. There is no way to wear a "bag type" of sling correctly, as the two sides slant upwards toward the elastic top and makes a triangle causing the top to close over the baby's face. These carriers are made out of a structured canvas material, which you can not manipulate for proper air circulation. Our slings are very different types of slings. Ours are made out of soft airy fabrics that can be manipulated. You can easily have baby high on chest and roll away any fabric away from face. You are in control of our slings.

Remember that your child is lying directly under your head, so make sure to use extreme caution when consuming hot drinks. Never smoke or drive with baby in the sling.

If you are wearing a toddler remember they can quickly bend backwards or reach for items outside of the sling.

Our products are made with light airy fabrics that allow air to easily circulate. If your baby is a newborn or very young, roll the sides of the fabric down so you can easily see them.

How do I wear a wrap sling?

You must wrap the sling around your body doing a series of crosses on your body then tying the ends of the fabric in a knot. See Wrap Sling Wearing Instructions for detailed instructions and pictures.

How easy is this sling to wrap?

Like all baby wearing products there is a learning curve and will take time to get used to using. Wrap slings have a lot of fabric, but tying it around your body is very simple and easy to do. Make sure you follow every step and give yourself enough time to experiment with the position and tightness of the fabric. See Wrap Sling Wearing Instructions for detailed instructions and pictures.

How long do I need to put my wrap sling on?

Give yourself ten minutes to put on your wrap sling. Take another five to ten minutes to correctly position your child. Once you feel comfortable using a wrap sling, you will only need a total of five to seven minutes.

When is the best time to start using my wrap sling?

You can place a newborn baby in your wrap sling but we recommend using a pouch sling for your newborn (they must be worn high on your chest). Pouch slings are faster to put on and place your newborn baby in. As your child grows and you get more active start using your wrap sling. What works for one person may not work for you and vise versa, so you decide what sling works best for your needs.
